On Mar. 5, 2020 (11:00 a.m. by Eastern Time), Professor Cao yong’an, president of Qiqihar Institute of Engineering, visited the school of education at Indiana University.
Professor Cao Yong’an introduced the organizational structure of the China Applied Curriculum Construction Alliance, member schools and their activities in the past five years. Additionally, he introduced the overall situation of the construction of applied curriculum in Qiqihar Institute of Engineering, emphasizing on the integration of industry and education, and the dual education on the cooperation of school and enterprise. Associate Professor Thomas Nelson Laird, director of the center of Higher Education Research at Indiana University gave an overview of the school and the institution of SOTL , which is based on the purpose of “promoting teachers’ focus on teaching and emphasizing on the student-centered model” and encourages teachers to actively carry out academic research in teaching practice. The institution of SOTL, as the authoritative department, identifying student learning outcomes, is in the first place in the United States. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the teaching concept of “student-centered”. Thomas Nelson Laird highly praised and recognized the years of exploration and practice on the cultivation of applied talents and the construction of applied curriculum construction of Qiqihar Institute of Engineering led by President Cao Yong’an for many years. President Cao Yong’an also introduced the educational discussion on “student-centered” model held in the school, hoping to strengthen the platform cooperation, to practice the educational concept of “student development as the center, student learning as the center and learning effect as the center”, and to explore the applied talents training model with Chinese characteristics.
