QIE Holds the 8th Application Characteristic Courses Communication and Evaluation Meeting

On January 13the final competition of the 8th application characteristic courses in Qiqihar Institute of Engineering (QIE) was held in the lecture hall of the library. After the preliminary evaluation of each major, the departments and the Office of Academic Affairs. 10 of 28 selected courses won and entered the finals. Among them, there were 4 courses of system and 6 courses of unit.

Pan Yu, the deputy director of Office of Academic Affairs in college, presided over the final contest. Nine experts from different departments and centers were selected as judges to grade the participating courses according to “the Evaluation Standard of Application-oriented Courses Construction”. President and Professor Cao Yongan made comments on the courses and gave profound guidance.

In the form of lecture, 10 reporters summarized the achievements and exchanged their experiences of curriculum teaching reform from four dimensions of course orientation, design, implementation and evaluation. The lecture of curriculum system focused on the cultivation and development of ability-oriented talents. The lecture of course unit focused on political education courses and reform results.

After the competition, two teachers were rewarded each the second and third prizes of the course system. There were 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes in the course unit category. QIE provided a total of 44,900-yuan cash reward for the award-winning courses and special curriculum funds to support the construction, in order to encourage the in-depth subsequent construction of the curriculum.

In the summary of current characteristic course evaluation activity, President Cao Yongan emphasized that promoting the construction of curriculum ideology was an important part of the education work in college. All the departments should pay high attention, cooperate and participate effectively in the work of curriculum ideology. It should be implemented and guaranteed by integrated and coherent institutional construction. On the basis of expounding the concrete method of curriculum ideology and pointing out the common mistakes, it is emphasized to attach importance to course orientation and evaluation. On the basis of elaborating the connotation of students’ strategies — “learning by doing, doing in learning, learning to do”, and teachers’ strategies— “hands-on training, letting go, cultivating skillful hands”, President Cao emphasized that technology contains the element of thoughts, that we should improve both the technology and thoughts, that the highest level of teaching is to help students learn independently, and that the final purpose of learning is to innovate and create. He encouraged teachers to actively participate in the communication of characteristic courses, deeply study the philosophy of our institute, and promote the curriculum reform.
